- Buy-to-let or rented property – landlords should have an SICR test done every five years or when new tenants enter the property.
- Homeowners – an SICR is recommended every 10 years. If the property has a swimming pool, this should be tested once every year.

Typically an SICR will take around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on the size of a property and the number of circuits requiring testing.

- C1 – ‘Danger is present,’ posing an immediate risk of injury. Urgent action is required.

- C3 – Improvement is recommended. This is the only code that can appear on a report while still passing the SICR test.
